Welcome to the DENDRAC website

Project DENDRAC has benefitted from a JCJC grant from the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (National Research Agency) since November 22, 2010. In 2012, a grant from the Île-de-France Region awarded to the UMR 7209 “Archéozoologie, archéobotanique: sociétés, pratiques et Environnements” (SESAME Program for heavy equipment) has allowed for the development of the project’s technical platform.

Thanks to these sources of funding, this research program, entitled “Development of dendrometric tools applied to anthracology: studies of human-resources-environmental relations”, has been able to develop standardized measuring tools that can be applied to archaeological charcoal. These tools are intended to be disseminated throughout the scientific community. They can be used to address a variety of research problems, ranging from wood collections practices and techniques of use, patterns of forest management, techno-economic choices, their specific effect on the environment and ancient landscapes, or even the impact of climatic events. These tools are adaptable to perspectives that emphasize both species diversity as well as that of growth conditions of the tree and forest stands.
